Title: Processing and Characterization of Recycled Carbon-Fiber Polycarbonate Composites

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to investigate new industrializable routes for the recycling of Carbon Fiber containing Polycarbonate waste composites and to show how the raw materials can be converted back into valuable new end products with competitive mechanical properties and unique aesthetic appearance. For this approach, off-spec- and waste-fractions of unidirectional tape, generated during composite production, are used. The devalued tapes, which can contain varying matrix contents, dry fibers and improper polymer impregnation, are cut and laminated using compression molding technique. The resulting laminates (plates) are examined with regard to their mechanical properties and their application for various uses, for example in structural applications.
