Abstract: Inter-bead voids in large scale additive manufacturing are important when considering the net properties of the bulk material. This work developed a code which can analytically calculate the stresses and homogenized properties for voids of arbitrary shapes in anisotropic media using conformal mapping and complex variable elasticity. This method can handle complex void geometries without incurring performance penalties as a result of discretization considerations as with FEA and spectral methods. Preliminary results indicate sub-millisecond run-times are possible, while still accurately capturing the void geometry, as a result this method can predict the stress concentrations and failure around the voids quickly and efficiently. This method is compared to Mori-Tanaka, FEA, and various analytical methods for homogenization.
