Abstract: This research has conducted a finite element simulation of the compression after impact (CAI) test for a typical composite material, specifically Toray T1225 LM-PAEK UD Tape, for different impact energy levels. The analysis was performed using the commercial finite element software ABAQUS to gain insight into the progression and growth of damage in the composite material during the tests, as observing damage growth through experimental methods can be both time-consuming and costly. It has been noted that the simulated results closely align with the experimental results, accurately predicting the compressive strength. The simulation process was described thoroughly, outlining each step, and the findings were presented. Computer simulation can accelerate the design and manufacturing process of composite materials, assisting in the reduction of damage progression during impacts, particularly when the damage is not easily detectable.
