Abstract: This study explores the potential of electrospun polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibers to improve the mechanical properties of carbon epoxy composites, particularly focusing on delamination resistance. The electrospun PAN nanofibers underwent optimization through stabilization and carbonization to improve physical and chemical structure to enhance their interaction with the resin matrix. This PAN nanofibers were interleaved within the epoxy carbon fiber prepregs to manufacture with and without PAN nanofibers composite laminates. The reinforcement of PAN nanofibers significantly increased the composite's resistance to delamination as compared to the control group without PAN nanofibers. The PAN nanofiber-reinforced composite exhibited a remarkable 134.33% increase in fracture energy. This research has a potential to contribute in the structural composite in aerospace and automobile application.
